Automobiles are valuable for people, and everyone has different reactions and feelings, even on a small scratch. Car paint may damage very easily because your car is exposed to debris while driving on the road. The conditions of weather are enough to cause damage on the hood, and the sudden accidents can’t be forgotten. The severe break off may require a new paint job or professional help, but the smaller area can be easily treated. It is the best approach to treating personally minor damages and take the services of a qualified mechanic like the NAS Collision Center on serious ones. Following are some tips that will help you to touch up your car paint, including:

Use a Matching Touch-up Paint Color

You need to check a firewall to know about the paint code number because the firewall separates the engine under the hood. Open the hood and find out this figure to buy the touch-up paint. You also need a primer with paint, and these are readily available at an auto store.

Analyze the Affected Area

Carefully analyze the arrested area for rust before touching it up. You can apply a small quantity of rust arrestor on the area to prevent rust spreading underneath your touch-up job. It is necessary for the durability of your job. Carefully wash your car and focus on the chipped area.

Pre-treat the Damaged Area

For better results, you need to pre-treat the affected area by applying a wax remover to the area. Use a nick sander because it will make your job easy to remove the loose paint from the area. The number 220 sandpaper is good to sand the particular area because, without it, the primer will not stick to the surface.

Carefully wash the area with water to remove wax and debris left while pre-treating process. Thoroughly dry the area before starting the next step.

Apply Primer

If you find it necessary to use a primer, then apply it to the area by squeezing a blob of primer. If you notice a level surface, then this step is not necessary, but the primer is required for the dark chips as the regular paint will not stick to the bare metal.

You can use a tiny brush to spread the primer around the chip, and one thick coat of primer is enough. Leave the primer for some time to let it dry thoroughly.

Test Your Selected Paint

Test the paint on an unseen area of the car, such as the lip under the door. It is significant to check the reaction of your paint with the existing paint. It will give you an idea either your selected color matches well or not.

Treat the Primed Area

Use a shallow dish to use the paint quickly, but shake well before pouring the paint into a shallow dish. Almost 2 to 3 layers of touch-up paint are required in the particular area. The touch-up paint will look elevated from the rest of the paint. You need to wait for almost 24 hours before proceeding to the next step.

After 24 hours, use 1000-grit sandpaper to sand the surface and ensure to move it very slowly. After this step, polish and wax the whole car to give it a finishing touch.
